John 2:11 describes
Jesus' first miracle at the wedding in Cana, where He turned water into
wine, revealing His glory and causing His disciples to believe in Him
as the Messiah, marking the beginning of His public ministry
signs. This event showed His divine power, confirming His identity to
His followers and demonstrating God's abundant provision, a significant
step from His private interactions.
Key Points of John 2:11:
- "This, the first of His signs...": Jesus' action wasn't just a good deed but a deliberate "sign" (Greek: *semeion), pointing to His divine nature, not just a miracle.
- "...did Jesus in Cana of Galilee...": The location, Cana, was a small town, highlighting that God's glory could be revealed in ordinary places.
- "...and manifested His glory...": This miracle displayed His inherent divine power and deity, affirming who He is.
- "...and His disciples believed in Him.": Witnessing this sign solidified the disciples' faith, leading them to trust and rely on Him as the promised Messiah - Yahshua (Yah's Salvation).
According
to rabbinic law, stone jars could not become ritually impure; that’s
why they were used for ceremonial water. The procedure required
immersing them in a mikveh (a bath in which certain Jewish ritual
purifications are performed) to sanctify them. But Jesus commanded that they be filled directly to the brim—without the mikveh.
Then
He said: “Draw some out now, and take it to the master of the banquet.”
The water became wine without the ritual required by the Pharisees. The
servants knew what had happened.
If
a rabbi had found out, he would have considered it a deliberate
defilement of the purification jars. Each miracle Jesus performed was
more than a display of power— it was a judgment against man-made traditions that invalidated the Law of God.
From
turning water into wine, to healing on Sabbath, to making mud with
saliva, Jesus exposed a religious system that added burdens to the
instructions established by Yahweh the Creator.
“This beginning of signs Jesus did... and manifested His glory (doxa – judgment). And His disciples believed in Him.”
"His glory (doxa – judgment)"
links the Greek word doxa
(glory, honor, splendor) with the concept of judgment, often seen in
the New Testament where God's glory is revealed in judgment or where
believers experience a refining judgment, signifying divine presence,
majesty, and ultimate authority, as seen in passages like 2 Thessalonians 1:9-10, which speaks of the glory of His power in judgment.
Mainstream Christianity has drifted so far from the Bible that truth sounds strange to them.
Like the Pharisees, Churchianity has added so many
false doctrines to the Word of God that truth has become almost
unrecognizable. When anyone questions a false doctrine, they are accused
of "causing division." Instead of searching the Scriptures to see if
these things are true, they are quick to quote Romans 16:17 and Jude
1:19.
An
indoctrinated denominational Christian will not change when presented
with new revealed information. This has been true of human nature as far
back the Garden of Eden. Eve sinned because she did not respect God's
word. Cain's offering was rejected because he did not respect God's
word.
Today,
respect for God's word is at an all time low. There are tens of
thousands of people who follow their Pastor instead of following Jesus
Christ. They go along to get alone and to be accepted.
I
remember a time one of our brethren brought a Messianic Rabbi to our
meeting to "enlighten" us on the proper way to observe Passover. This
Rabbi told the congregation that a lamb must be slain according to the
Bible. When the floor was opened for discussion, I stood up and said,
"If we go back to animal sacrifice, we will be spitting on the blood of
Jesus Christ." The room fell silence and the Rabbi left our meeting.
Most Churches substitute communion for Passover
because they have been taught that Passover is for Jews. They miss the
whole point of the sacrifice of Christ and why he told us to "remember
his death." So what does Churchianity do? They remember his birthday
when they don't even what date it is. They hold Easter services and
hunt colored eggs. Churchianity is like Cain - God, here is my offering - I'll do my way.
Judgment begins at the house of God. Christians are that "house." ~ 1 Peter 4:17
