After God's Own Heart

King David

The following is an excerpt from the book, The Shepherd King: The Life of David by the late Pat Robertson.

David was a brilliant commander of his nation's armies. He was a brilliant administrator of the affairs of his nation. He became enormously wealthy in his lifetime. He was a gifted poet and musician.

In all of history, there have been few men who have exhibited such prophetic insight and overwhelming devotion to their Creator. But perhaps the greatest accolade of all is the description given to David in the Bible where we are told that David "was a man after God's own heart." Knowing the story of David's infamous acts of adultery and murder, we ask. "How can this be?"

If God forgave David, He surely will forgive everyone who repents and cleans up their act.

A Psalm of David (Hebrew name added)

Psalm 103

Bless Yahweh, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless Yahweh, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, Who satisfies your mouth with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

Yahweh executes righteousness And justice for all who are oppressed. He made known His ways to Moses, His acts to the children of Israel. Yahweh is merciful and gracious, Slow to anger, and abounding in mercy.

He will not always strive with us, Nor will He keep His anger forever. He has not dealt with us according to our sins, Nor punished us according to our iniquities.

For as the heavens are high above the earth, So great is His mercy toward those who fear Him; As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us.

As a father pities his children, So Yahweh pities those who fear Him. For He knows our frame; He remembers that we are dust.

As for man, his days are like grass; As a flower of the field, so he flourishes. For the wind passes over it, and it is gone, And its place remembers it no more.

But the mercy of Yahweh is from everlasting to everlasting On those who fear Him, And His righteousness to children’s children, To such as keep His covenant, And to those who remember His commandments to do them.

Yahweh has established His throne in heaven, And His kingdom rules over all.

Bless Yahweh, you His angels, Who excel in strength, who do His word, Heeding the voice of His word. Bless Yahweh, all you His hosts, You ministers of His, who do His pleasure. Bless Yahweh, all His works, In all places of His dominion.

Bless Yahweh, O my soul!

You are cordially invited to join Renew Your Strength Bible Study Group

Renew Your Strength is not a "know-it-all" type ministry. The purpose of Renew Your Strength Bible Study Group is to get people to think about what they believe and why they believe it, not debate who's right or wrong.

Over the years, as Renew Your Strength has continued to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ, we have recognized that some of the things we once held as true, in fact, are not; and therefore we will not “cast in stone” a statement of our beliefs. We reserve the right to be wrong and to repent of such error when we discover it.

To learn the revealed truth of God we must know and understand the true meaning of the words God inspired to be written. Use Strong's Concordance to check the original word before it was translated. Do your own research, make up your own mind, rely on the Holy Spirit to guide you.
