"Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime,"
This
proverb is the reason welfare without work is a bad idea. If you teach a
man to fish, he's going to need proper fishing equipment and a fishing
license. He'll need a fishing boat, and transportation. Who's going to
pay for all that?
It's
better to give a man a job and let him buy his own fish, his own fishing equipment, his own boat and vehicle to pull it. Even if the
job is just picking up trash and cleaning vacant lots, maybe mowing the
lawn of a widow lady or a disabled person. Welfare sounds like the
Christian thing to do, however, if anyone will not work neither shall they eat. ~ 2 Thessalonians 3:10
Following biblical principles is always best... for everyone. It's better to empower someone with job skills at minimum wage than to simply provide assistance without work. Putting in a 40 hour work week gives a person dignity and the discipline they need to find a higher paying job.
To quote Walter Williams, "For somebody to do well in school, 'somebody' needs to make him or her go to bed on time and get 10 hours sleep. 'Somebody' must make him or her do their homework. 'Somebody' must feed them breakfast in the morning and 'somebody' must make them mind the teachers. If these things are not done, I don't care how much money you put into the school system, education will not occur."
Note: The government is not your 'Somebody'.
Job Corps, founded in 1964, was created to give free education and vocational training
to young people ages 16 to 24. As usual, it was a total failure and simply turned into a do-nothing bureaucracy.
Starting
in 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic triggered the closure of Job Corps
physical sites, and the organization attempted to shift to online
education. Enrollment dropped by about 75 percent. Since its inception
in 1964 under the Economic Opportunity Act, Job Corps has served more
than 2 million young people.
The highest-paying job at Job Corps is a CSO/CISO
with a salary of $149,117 per year (estimate). The lowest-paying job at
Job Corps is a Receptionist with a salary of $37,252 per year.
The US Department of Labor (DOL) doesn't publicly release specific data for the exact number of employees.
Why not? The taxpayers need to know where their money goes.
What Does Job Corps Do For Graduates?
A former Job Corps student: "A lot of certifications in Job Corps are redundant. They can make you
seem more marketable, but a lot of the jobs offered are usually free
certifications and training by employers regardless. Even with
certifications you would still go through training from an employer
anyways, so it's somewhat unnecessary."
Job Corps students would have been better off enrolling in an online high school or college to get a diploma. 90% of what the government does is just for appearance, the other 10% is automated.
Many Americans today
believe that the federal government is supposed to be
father, mother, teacher, doctor, and
provider of every need. Instead of individual
responsibility, they look to Uncle Sam. Time to wake up to reality... Consider the Ant
